Information You Give Us
When you send a news tip, correction, advertising inquiry, or other message, we receive your email address, message, attachments, and related email information. We use these to respond, conduct reporting, and manage our publication and business relationships. Please avoid sending sensitive information that is unnecessary for your inquiry.
Privacy requests may include your name, email address, region, requested action, and correspondence needed to process the request. We use this information to handle and document your request, not to add you to a marketing list.
Staff accounts include account identifiers, email addresses, protected password records, roles, and profile information. WordPress uses cookies to support authorized login and preferences. We do not offer public reader registration.
New reader comments and pingbacks are disabled. Historical comments and moderation records may still contain names, email addresses, optional website addresses, text, and associated IP or browser information. Disabling new comments does not erase older records.
Website Requests and Security
Our hosting and delivery providers receive information needed to serve requests, such as IP addresses, browser information, requested pages, and request times. Website searches and filter choices may appear in URLs, browser history, and infrastructure logs. This information supports page delivery, security, troubleshooting, and reliable operation.
Local Advertising
We rotate directly sold local advertisements. Our custom advertising system does not choose advertisements based on a reader-interest profile. It measures aggregate views and clicks by advertisement and day. Its statistics table does not store visitor IP addresses, user IDs, user-agent values, or visitor cookies. Hosting systems still receive normal request information when an advertisement is displayed or measured.
Website Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand website traffic, including pages viewed, interactions, referral sources, and device and browser information. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar identifiers and process network information when its code loads. You can review your statistics preferences through Privacy choices or Manage consent. We do not serve Google AdSense or Google Ad Manager advertisements. Embedded YouTube content and websites you choose to visit may process information separately under their own policies.
Cookies, Privacy Signals, and Other Websites
We use WordPress cookies for authorized access and preferences, and Complianz cookies to remember privacy choices. You can open Privacy choices or the Manage consent control to review the available options. Browser settings can also restrict cookies; doing so may affect login or embedded content.
Our local advertisement counter is designed to stop measurement when the browser exposes an enabled Global Privacy Control signal or a supported Do Not Track signal, or when the counter receives a denied statistics preference. These signals do not prevent the basic network requests needed to deliver a page. This description applies to our counter, not a promise that every external service responds identically.
Some articles contain embedded content such as YouTube videos. When an external service loads, it receives network and browser information and may use cookies or other identifiers. Depending on that service and your account settings, it may associate your activity with activity over time and across other sites. See Google’s Privacy Policy for YouTube’s practices.
Advertiser links, business websites, event-organizer links, and map directions open services governed by their own privacy policies. Our directory directions links open Google Maps when selected; they are not embedded maps. The site’s event listings do not collect ticket payments or attendee registrations.
Published Information and Service Providers
Our reporting, photographs, bylines, business directory, and event listings may include information about people obtained from submissions, public sources, and editorial work. Information selected for publication is visible to readers and may be indexed by search engines.
Hosting, website-delivery, security, backup, and email providers process information needed to supply their services. We use Hostinger for website hosting. External content providers process information when their content loads. We may disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, or the security of the publication. Contact us with questions about a particular disclosure.
How Long We Keep Information
We keep inquiry messages and attachments while needed to respond, maintain an ongoing relationship, support reporting, or meet legal obligations. Privacy-request records are kept as needed to document handling and meet applicable requirements. Staff account records are kept while needed for authorized access and accountability. Historical comments are reviewed as part of moderation and applicable information requests.
Published reporting, photographs, business listings, and events may remain in our archive. A request involving published material is reviewed separately from a request about private correspondence. Infrastructure logs and backup copies follow the relevant operational and provider retention arrangements; removing a live record does not immediately remove every backup copy. We do not promise automatic deletion after a fixed number of days.
Questions, Corrections, and Privacy Requests
Email contact@theorangeindependent.com to ask about information you supplied, request access, or request a correction or deletion. Describe your request and the relevant page or communication. We may ask for information reasonably needed to verify a request before disclosing or changing personal information. Do not send a password or government identification document unless we have explained why a specific verification step is necessary.
We review requests under applicable law and explain relevant limits or exceptions. Depending on which laws apply, California residents may have rights to know or access personal information, correct or delete it, opt out of sale or sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive information, and exercise rights without discrimination. An authorized agent may contact us; we may need evidence of the agent’s authority. This policy does not limit rights provided by applicable law.
Policy Changes
We will update this page and its effective date when our practices change. For material changes, we will also place a notice on the website. Please review the current policy when you have questions about our practices.
