In a special meeting Wednesday night June 3, the Orange City Council voted 5 to 1 to place an initiative on the November 2026 ballot to increase the sales tax by 1 cent for purchases in the City of Orange. The tax increase would be in effect for 13 years, unless repealed or extended by the voters in a separate initiative.
Mayor Pro Tem Denis Bilodeau was the sole no vote. Council Member John Gyllenhammer was not present at the meeting and did not vote.
Four members of the public spoke during public comments at the lightly attended meeting. Two were in favor of the measure, and two had issues with the ballot initiative.
