Approximately 50 Firefighters from the Orange County Fire Authority and several cities, including the City of Orange, stopped a brush fire that was spreading at the 241 Toll Road at Santiago Canyon Road. Early during the fire several spot fires started outside the main fire forcing fire crews to work quickly to stop the fire from spreading.
Ground crews were aided by at least 2 water dropping helicopters and a hand crew in attacking the fire. It took over an hour to stop the progress of the fire and several more hours to mop up any hot spots.
An OCFA Patrol Unit crew will stay at the scene and monitor the fire for any flare ups.
Traffic was backed up in the area for hours as the California Highway Patrol was forced to close the Toll Road as well as Santiago Canyon Road to permit Firefighters to work safely.
