FIRE DAMAGES LAB AT CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY

City of Orange Firefighters along with help from Anaheim Fire, and the Orange County Fire Authority, responded to a fire in a laboratory at Chapman University at 9:17 am Sunday morning.

According to the limited information provided by the Orange Fire Department Public Information Officer after conferring with Chapman University management staff, the fire started in a lab at the Keck Center for Science and Engineering at 450 N. Center Street, and was contained by the buildings fire suppression systems. No questions from reporters about the incident were answered by the Public Information Officer.

While the 2 alarm fire was quickly extinguished, a Hazmat team from the Anaheim Fire Department was dispatched to the incident to assess the damage and any possible danger from chemicals that may have been present in the building.

No injuries were reported from the incident. Classes are scheduled to begin at the Keck Center for Science and Engineering on Monday morning.

An update from a person with knowledge of the incident reports that the fire started in a refrigerator in a classroom on the 3rd floor of the building.
