The City of Orange has announced that they have reached a tentative agreement with the striking city workers belonging to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers seeking a pay increase.
“This resolution recognizes the importance of the hardworking employees represented by the IBEW Local 47, who play a critical frontline role in serving our community”, said Mayor Dan Slater. “I’m proud we were able to reach an agreement that reflects the City’s commitment to fairness, equity, and respect for our employees.”
The striking workers are expected to return to work on March 16th.
These negations are only the first with groups of city workers that are underpaid in comparison with the pay rates of other Orange County cities. The remaining employees unions are likely to demand significant increases from a city burdened with financial uncertainties, and a majority on the City Council that seems often unable to control their spending on non critical items.
