CITY MANAGER TO RESTART PLAZA CLEANING CONTRACT

At the direction of the City council, the City Manager has been instructed to restart the contract to have the Plaza regularly cleaned by a power washing company. The contract was suspended approximately 14 months ago to save money.

Since then the cleanliness of the Plaza area has deteriorated significantly. The City Manager will determine how often the cleaning will occur, likely once a month to start.

It remains to be seen if and when the light fixtures and trash cans will be repaired and re-painted to fix the damage done by dog urine.

Council member Arianna Barrios represents District 1, which includes the Plaza and Historic District on the Orange City Council. Long a vocal advocate for both areas, she gave us a statement for a previous article saying “Maintaining the Plaza has been an ongoing challenge, and one that hopefully has an emerging solution. With revenues now incoming from the paid parking program, funds are being dedicated to cleaning the City’s second largest revenue producing area. It is certainly something I will fight to make happen, those dollars deserve to stay in Old Towne and not subsidize other areas that have not done the work (or gone through the pain) to become as commercially viable as Old Towne has.”
