One person was killed and another is under arrest for suspected DUI and evading police following a short pursuit initiated by the California Highway Patrol.
The chase ended when the car hit a pole at Batavia and La Veta in Orange at high speed. The impact caused the car to split in half, leaving the female passenger dead and the driver injured.
The impact of the crash damaged traffic signals at the busy intersection which were still being repaired by City of Orange crews late this afternoon.
The Orange Police Departments Traffic Unit is conducting the investigation.
